AF Corse star Ye appointed ambassador for FIA Smart Driving Challenge

FIA World Endurance Championship race-winner Yifei Ye has been named as part of a refreshed ambassadorial line-up for the FIA Smart Driving Challenge (SDC), a mobile application helping drivers to improve their on-road safety and sustainability.

Powered by technology from Swedish risk intelligence firm, Greater Than, the FIA SDC is an AI-based app that provides real-time tips, feedback and scoring while driving. AF Corse Hypercar star Ye – Ferrari’s first factory driver from China – is among seven racing and rally aces set for public-facing roles with the initiative.

The 24-year-old made history in 2021, as the first driver to claim both the Asian and European Le Mans Series titles in the same year in his maiden campaign of endurance racing competition. He was similarly en route to an LMP2 class victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans until a technical issue cost him the win with less than three minutes left on the clock.

“Safety and sustainability are essential – both on and off the track,” acknowledged last season’s Lone Star Le Mans winner, who finished second in the 2025 FIA WEC curtain-raiser in Qatar alongside team-mates Robert Kubica and Philip Hanson. “I am proud to join the FIA’s Smart Driving Challenge ambassador programme, to help users to make a difference wherever they drive, travel or commute.”

Last year’s FIA SDC welcomed drivers from 92 different countries. Participants reduced their fuel or battery usage by an average of 9%, with the smartest cutting their emissions by up to one-third. During the live final, the two best drivers also lowered their crash risk by nearly two-thirds by adopting safe and responsible driving practices.

The FIA SDC has been used by international motorsport’s governing body during the previous two United Nations annual climate change conferences, COP28 and COP29, to help raise awareness of the technologies available to drive down emissions globally.
