BMW M Team WRT confirms full Hypercar line-up
New to the FIA WEC Hyperclass in 2024, BMW M Team WRT has revealed its full roster of drivers to compete in the WEC’s headline category this season.
Sheldon van der Linde had already been confirmed to drive the No. 20 BMW M Hybrid V8 but joining the South African in the cockpit will be Robin Frijns (Netherlands) and Rene Rast (Germany).
In the sister No. 15 car, Belgium’s Dries Vanthoor was named on the initial entry list but BMW has today revealed that he will be joined by Raffaele Marciello (Switzerland) and Marco Wittmann (Germany).
Andreas Roos, Head of BMW M Motorsport, commented: “We compete in the 2024 FIA WEC season with a very strong selection from our high-class works driver squad in the Hypercar class. We have combined driving excellence and experience in the two BMW M Hybrid V8s – on the one hand experience with our LMDh car, on the other hand experience of the race series and Le Mans in particular. Like Sheldon van der Linde, Marco Wittmann has already driven the BMW M Hybrid in IMSA. All the other drivers - including our newcomer Raffaele Marciello – have already tested the car and will continue to do so intensively in the coming months.”
