COTA FP2: Ferrari and Corvette Set Pace
Giovinazzi Quickest for Ferrari AF Corse while LMGT3 Sees Juncadella on Top in the TF Sport Corvette
HYPERCAR
- Preparations for Sunday’s Lone Star Le Mans WEC race continued in the second 90-minute free practice session on Friday afternoon
- With grippier conditions on the newly re-surfaced track the lap times tumbled as Antonio Giovinazzi set the fastest time of the session in the No.51 Ferrari AF Corse 499P Hypercar on a 1m52.268s
- Antonio Fuoco made it a 1-2 for the Prancing Horse as he lapped COTA in the No.50 499P just 0.052s slower than sister car
- No.20 BMW M Team WRT Hypercar places third but its session ends early after spinning and stopping at T15 after 42minutes with Sheldon van der Linde aboard, causing a brief red flag. Robin Frijns earlier set the best time of 1m52.383s
- Cadillac Racing continue strong form at COTA so far as a 1m52.522s is set by Alex Lynn in blue V-Series.R Hypercar for fourth
- That time just eclipses Robert Kubica’s 1m52.705s lap in the No.83 AF Core Ferrari 499P
- Toyota show improved pace in second session as Sebastien Buemi places sixth in the No.8 Toyota Gazoo Racing run GR010 Hypercar
- The second of the BMW’s is seventh as Dries Vanthoor sets the fastest lap of that entry on a 1m52.791s. Just 0.0.086s separates fifth to seventh in Hypercar
- Hertz Team Jota lock out eighth and ninth as the No.12 Porsche 963 heads the No.12 entry as Norman Nato and Jenson Button set the times respectively
- Completing the top 10 is the second of the Toyotas with Mike Conway claiming the best time as he celebrates a decade with the Toyota squad at COTA this weekend
- Both Porsche Penske entries end session outside the top 10 with No.5 in 12th and No.6 down in 17th position
LM GT3:
- TF Sport top the LMGT3 times with Daniel Juncadella fastest in the Corvette Z06 their duo of Corvette GT3 cars in first and second positions as the No.81 entry heads the No.82 machine. Charlie Eastwood and Daniel Juncadella set the times respectively
- VISTA AF Corse take second and third positions with the No.55 car that was quickest in FP1 heading the No.54 machine. Alessio Rovera and Davide Rigon sets the times
- No.87 Akkodis ASP Lexus is fourth as Esteban Masson pumps in a 1m2m05.868s lap
- No.60 Iron Lynx Lamborghini of Franck Perera places fifth ahead of the No.91 Le Mans winning Manthey EMA Porsche 911 RSR GT3
