During the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual the Princess Charlene of Monaco foundation will be calling for donations to tackle Covid-19

A fundraising appeal will be running throughout the 24-hour race. The Princess Charlene of Monaco foundation will be collecting donations towards medical research for a universal vaccine.

HSH Charlene, Princess of Monaco: “In the last few months, the whole world has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Medical staff, healthcare workers and researchers are tackling the problem, but we can all do something to contribute to the cause. As a competitor in the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual via the Princess Charlene of Monaco foundation, I am glad to be able to share in the effort. Like endurance racing, virtual or otherwise, triumphing over Covid-19 requires a team effort. Please give what you can during the 24-hour race, by donating to the Princess Charlene of Monaco foundation. Every penny collected will be put towards medical research and a universal vaccine for Covid-19. I am counting on your support.”

Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest: “The 88th 24 Hours of Le Mans was to take place on 13–14 June 2020, but this pandemic has disarranged our schedules and altered our lives. We postponed the race to 19–20 September. However, we decided to keep 13–14 June as a red-letter day and to stage the first 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual, inviting simracers and professional racing drivers to compete online. All sport involves generosity, teamwork and mutual support and it was therefore natural to join forces with the Princess Charlene of Monaco foundation in the appeal for donations to aid medical research. Every contribution counts.”

All donations received by the Princess Charlene of Monaco foundation will be sent to Gavi, the international organisation founded in 2000 to ensure universal access to vaccinations, without discrimination.

These funds will come on top of the contribution made by the Principality of Monaco as part of the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator initiative for which H.S.H. Prince Albert participated in an online donors’ conference organised by the European Commission on 4 May.

Details on how to donate to the Princess Charlene of Monaco foundation will feature regularly during the broadcasting of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual. Foundation Ambassadors Peter Sagan, Charles Leclerc and Yannick Agnel will also be relaying the message.

The #54 Ferrari 488 GTE fielded by the Princess Charlene of Monaco foundation will be shared by StrongTogether crew Francesco Castellacci, Felipe Massa, Giancarlo Fisichella and simracer Tony Mella. The team will be calling attention to the appeal.
