Hydrogen on track with Mission H24
On Saturday 22 September, the 5th round of the European Le Mans Series at Spa-Francorchamps provided the backdrop to a world première: a hydrogen-powered racing car in action on track plus a fuel stop demonstration.
To mark the occasion, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) has teamed up with GreenGT to launch a special series of bottles...of water – the only emission produced by the GreenGT LM PH2G, the hydrogen-powered racing machine that took to the track.
In launching Mission H24 during the European Le Mans Series, the ACO and GreenGT make clear their commitment to promoting and developing hydrogen-powered vehicles, the ultimate goal being to include the trailblazing technology at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2024. Head of Transport and mobility at the European Commission, Henrik Hololei was present at Spa alongside Pierre Fillon, President of the ACO and Christophe Ricard, Presdident of GreenGT.
Yannick Dalmas, four-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and driver of the leading car, took the wheel for the demonstration – the ideal opportunity to emphasise the simplicity, reliability and incredible racing potential of hydrogen power.
Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest said: “Hydrogen is the future because we are aiming for zero-emissions. It is our role to develop high-performance, environmentally friendly technologies.”
Mission H24 will be promoting hydrogen through regular public outings. Following its debut at Spa Francorchamps, the next one will be in Paris at Mondial Tech, the venue for the Paris Motor Show on 5 October.
