Iron Lynx confirms third Mercedes for marque’s Le Mans return
Hot on the heels of the Mercedes-AMG LMGT3’s FIA World Endurance Championship debut in the Qatar 1812km two days ago, Iron Lynx has announced that it will enter a three-car line-up in this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.
As the reigning European Le Mans Series LMGT3 champion, Iron Lynx earned itself an extra slot in the 62-car Le Mans field, and the Italian outfit will duly add a third car to the #60 and #61 Mercedes’ that it is running in FIA WEC on a full-time basis, as the #63 joins the fold for the season’s showpiece race.
The 93rd edition of the legendary round-the-clock competition – which will take place from 11-15 June – will mark the famous German brand’s return to La Sarthe for the first time in more than a quarter-of-a-century.
The #63 Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 will be crewed by Australian father-and-son duo Stephen and Brenton Grove – who between them boast a wealth of experience both at home and internationally – alongside Mercedes-AMG Performance Driver, Luca Stolz. A former Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup champion, the 29-year-old German has already accumulated an impressive career CV, and like his two team-mates, will be making his Le Mans bow.
“We are excited to line up an additional car for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and we are proud to represent Mercedes-AMG in its return with an expanded programme,” commented Iron Lynx Team Principal and CEO, Andrea Piccini.
“Both Stephen and Brenton have a lot of experience and are a valuable addition to the team, while Luca is an outstanding driver. I used to be team-mates with him, and I know he is extremely talented. He is somebody that the team can truly rely upon.”
