One year to go until WEC 6 Hours of São Paulo!
Today marks one year to go until the FIA WEC returns to Brazil for the 6 Hours of São Paulo, round five of the 2024 calendar (14 July).
The FIA WEC raced at the iconic Interlagos circuit from 2012 – 2014, but next year’s 6 Hours of São Paulo will mark the first time in a decade that the world’s premier sportscar series has raced in Brazil. The new contract between WEC and the Mayor of São Paulo (Ricardo Nunes) will see the World Championship host a race in the city for a minimum of five editions. The possibility of a further five year extension has also been included within the contract.
In the inaugural Brazilian WEC race back in 2012, it was Toyota who claimed the victory with Audi and Porsche winning in 2013 and 2014 respectively. With a minimum of ten manufacturers competing in next year’s WEC, it will be a fierce battle to see which team can triumph on the championship’s return to South America.
At 4.3km in length, 15 turns and driven in anti-clockwise direction, the Interlagos circuit is particularly demanding for the drivers due to the gradient changes but there’s also plenty of overtaking opportunities too with a long pit straight and the “Reta Oposta” back straight.
Tickets for the race will be available from 1 October 2023, with prices starting from 250 Brazilian Real.
