Championship points update post Spa-Francorchamps
Last weekend marked the FIA WEC’s return to racing after a six-month forced break. But with two rounds remaining in WEC Season 8, who is leading who in the standings?
Well, in LMP1, it’s Toyota Gazoo Racing that tops the standings as first-time Spa winners Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Jose Maria Lopez extended their lead by 12 points over team-mates Kazuki Nakajima, Sebastien Buemi and Brendon Hartley in the No. 8 car.
Meanwhile, Rebellion Racing’s Bruno Senna, Gustavo Menezes and Norman Nato lost some ground in Belgium after finishing third and go into the next round with 109 points (in contrast to Toyota who have 159). However, there’s still plenty of time for Rebellion to catch up as next month’s 24 Hours of Le Mans will carry double points.

After Porsche GT Team’s win at Spa, the German marque is now second in the LMGTE Pro manufacturers’ standings with 190 points. Aston Martin Racing tops the table with 219 points, and Ferrari lie third with a total of 166 points.

At #WEC #6hSpa, the GTE Pro podium lineup was the first race where that order has occurred in the class - a 1.56% rate.
The rostrum has happened once before in GTE Am, at #6hFuji 2018.

United Autosports has proved themselves as the team to beat in LMP2 with the Anglo team taking a hat-trick of victories to see the trio of Paul Di Resta, Filipe Albuquerque and Phil Hanson 22 points clear of Jackie Chan DC Racing’s Ho-Pin Tung and Will Stevens.
Only 11 points separate second, third and fourth place currently in LMP2 with Jackie Chan DC Racing on 98, and Racing Team Nederland seven points behind with 91. JOTA is fourth with 89 points making it all to play for at Le Mans next month.
Finally, in LMGTE Am, AF Corse now sit top of the table with two wins this season for Francois Perrodo, Emmanuel Collard and Nicklas Nielsen. The trio are 12 points ahead of TF Sport who lie second. Team Project 1 and Aston Martin Racing are third and fourth respectively, the teams separated by a mere point going into the penultimate round of the season.
Next month’s 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place behind closed doors from 19-20 September.
