Lopez to step in for Toyota’s Conway at Le Mans
Toyota Gazoo Racing has confirmed that Mike Conway will be replaced by José María López in the cockpit of the No. 7 GR010 Hybrid at next week’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, round four of FIA WEC.
In an official team press release issued this afternoon, it was revealed that Conway had suffered fractures to his ribs and collar bone in a cycling accident on Thursday.
Conway’s former team-mate Lopez, who raced for Toyota Gazoo Racing from 2017 to 2022, returns to the cockpit of the No. 7 Hypercar, starting in Sunday’s official test. Lopez was due to race the Lexus RC F GT3 at Le Mans.
Conway will immediately begin an intensive rehabilitation programme, under the supervision of Toyota Gazoo Racing medical staff, with the target of returning to WEC action as soon as possible.
The 24 Hours of Le Mans gets underway next weekend (15-16 June).
