Spa FP1: Buemi tops times for No. 8 Toyota; Albuquerque fastest in LMP2; Kessel Ferrari quickest in LMGTE Am

Below are the main headlines from Free Practice 1 at the TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, round three of FIA WEC.

Hypercar  

  • No.8 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hybrid Hypercar driven by Sebastien Buemi sets fastest lap of first free practice session at Spa. 
  • Winner of recent 6 Hours of Portimao laps in 2m02.982s shortly after track goes green after only red flag of session. 
  • Antonio Fuoco places the No.50 Ferrari AF Corse Ferrari 499P second with a 2m04.632s lap. 
  • Jose-Maria Lopez takes the third best time as Argentinian, who won race with teammates Kamui Kobayashi and Mike Conway last season, sets a 2m04.642s best. 
  • Ferrari fourth as No.51 499P in hands of Alessandro Pier Guidi laps just 0.074s off the No.7 Toyota. 
  • No.6 Porsche Penske 963 Hypercar is fifth as local ace Laurens Vanthoor peaks with best time of 2m04.870s. 
  • Alex Lynn puts Cadillac sixth as V.Series. R Hypercar makes Spa debut in solid style with No.5 car. 
  • Second Porsche Penske 963 just shy of Cadillac as Michael Christensen finishes session in seventh on a 2m05.807s. 
  • Fastest Peugeot TotalEnergies is eighth as Gustavo Menezes laps with No.94 9X8 Hypercar in 2m07.259s 
  • Additional No.3 Cadillac is ninth as Renger van der Zande, Jack Aitken and Sebastien Bourdais take to track for first time in brand new car. Yellow car finishes session in ninth position. 
  • Second Peugeot 9X8 rounds out top ten as Paul di Resta sets best time of 2m07.769s. 
  • Glickenhaus Racing are 11th as 2022 pole sitter Olivier Pla sets best lap. 
  • They head the Floyd Vanwall and the all-new Hertz Team Jota Porsche 963 which makes WEC debut this weekend and undertakes first serious running completing 18 laps 

LMP2 

  • A 2m07.471s lap by WEC returnee Filipe Albuquerque sees the No.22 United Autosports Oreca-Gibson at the top of the LMP2 times. 
  • An early 2m07.541s lap by Pietro Fittipaldi is not beaten by the ultra-competitive field LMP2 field and it stays second for majority of session. 
  • Portimao winning No.23 United Autosports Oreca-Gibson sandwiches the Jota machine as Tom Blomqvist stops the clocks on a 2m07.753s. 
  • Just 0.282s covers the top three. 
  • Inter Europol Competition continues strong form as Fabio Scherer sets a 2m07.799s best. 
  • Prema Racing fifth with Daniil Kvyat sets a 2m07.809s best lap. 

 LMGTE Am  

  • Kessel Racing Ferrari 488 Evo tops times in LMGTE Am as Daniel Serra continues his trend of being fastest driver in sessions this season with a best of 2m16.177s. 
  • No.21 AF Corse car driven by local driver Ulysee de Pauw peaks on a 2m16.717s which is good enough for second position. 
  • ORT by TF Sport Aston Martin denies Ferrari a 1-2-3 as a 2m17.163 best is set by Charlie Eastwood. 
  • Luis Perez-Companc causes red flag after crashing the No.83 Richard Mille AF Corse on exit of Les Combes.
