Virage du Raccordement Motul christened at Le Mans

The ACO cements Motul’s place in Le Mans history with naming of classic corner

FIA World Endurance Championship Official Lubricant Partner Motul today had a corner named in its honour ahead of the third round of the championship, the 90th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

For the last 68 years, Motul has been a committed and forward-thinking partner with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), a relationship which was reinforced in 2016 with the appointment of the leading performance lubricant specialist as Official Lubricant Partner to the FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

With the officialization today of the renaming of the famous Virage du Raccordement as “Virage du Raccordement Motul”, this partnership moves yet further towards cementing its place in the event’s 99-year history.

Motul has had an increasingly strong presence at La Sarthe in recent years and the iconic red and white logo can be seen widely on and off track.  Teams up and down the pit lane receive technical support including Glickenhaus Racing in the Hypercar category and all LMP2 entries thanks to an exclusive lubricant partnership with Gibson.

“We’re delighted to reach another milestone in our long-standing partnership with Motul,” said Pierre Fillon, Président de l’Automobile Club de l’Ouest.

“As it associates its name with one of the most iconic corners in motorsport, Motul will benefit from the exposure afforded by the world's greatest endurance race. Motul and the ACO have maintained a strong relationship since 1954 and we are honoured and touched by such loyalty. Having partners who are so dedicated to the 24 Hours of Le Mans and its history is a source of great satisfaction.”

Olivier Montange, President of Motul Supervisory Board, outlined the impact to the brand of the relationship.

“Le Mans has always had a very special place within the hearts of everyone at Motul,” he said.

“We love Motorsport at Motul, but I have to say that the 24 Hours of Le Mans is very unique due to the human and technical challenge, by our shared history and relationship with longstanding partners, and of course not forgetting our common French touch.

“In the current environment, the concepts of endurance, durability and reliability are more relevant and topical than ever. We are extremely happy to announce the Virage du Raccordement Motul naming which both symbolizes many decades of presence at Le Mans and, more than ever, strengthens Motul’s place in the future of the most famous twice-round-the-clock event in motorsport.”
