What the drivers said on Saturday
Check out what the drivers said on Saturday at Shanghai....
Mike Conway – No.7 Toyota Gazoo Racing Toyota TS 050 HYBRID LMP1
“It was pretty close and the privateers have been right with us the whole time in every condition so were unsure what to expect in qualifying.
“It was quite good we had an advantage and hopefully we can continue that on in the race with the mixed conditions forecast and the different levels of rain.
“Hopefully we can just do our job, have a clean race and see where we are at the end.”
Gabriel Aubry – No.38 Jackie Chan DC Racing Oreca-Gibson LMP2
“I was really happy with what the team did between Free Practice and qualifying because we had some bumping but in qualifying the car became mega.
“I was pushing and pushing and when I saw the lap time I looked at the dashboard and thought it was a mistake so I am really happy with this performance and us achieving our first pole position of the season here at Shanghai.”
Stefan Mücke – No. 66 Ford Chip Ganassi Team UK Ford GT
“It was quite an interesting qualifying session for us. I went out as the first car of the session and found the grip not very good, the track was black but it was the wrong rubber on the track.
“We saw during the session that the track was getting quicker and quicker. Olivier did an amazing lap in his run in the middle, so we decided to have one more go and it was pole position at the end. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the lap time. The team did a great job, we had a really nicely balanced car and the tyres were spot on in the window for the one quali lap that we had.”
Pedro Lamy – No.98 Aston Martin Racing Aston Martin Vantage
“It is great to be on pole, we didn’t expect to be here because we thought we didn’t have the right pace. The track improved during the session and we saw a big difference between the beginning and the end of the session.
“I improved a lot on my second run because the tyres had more grip because the track had more rubber. Paul did a great lap after me and we managed to be on pole. As always Paul (Dalla Lana) makes the difference and this is a great result for the team.”
