Where’s new for FIA WEC in 2024?

Ahead of the official 2024 entry list reveal next Monday (27 November), FIAWEC.com takes a look at the race calendar for next season.

The FIA WEC will expand to eight races in 2024 with events in five different regions (Asia, Europe, North America, South America and the Middle East).

There will be two brand-new race venues for the WEC in 2024 (Lusail and Imola) while there will be two returning circuits (Interlagos and COTA). The remaining four venues have been on the WEC calendar for several years [Le Mans, Spa-Francorchamps, Bahrain and Fuji].

Doha, Qatar, will host the WEC Prologue (pre-season testing) and round one in early March at Lusail International Circuit. The Qatar 1812km is named after the country's National Day and will last no longer than 10 hours. Some of the teams will be taking part in a test there later this month with Goodyear.

The championship will then move to another new race venue, as Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari (Imola) replaces Autodromo Nazionale Monza as the Italian round of the WEC whose date moves forward from July to April. It will mark the first time that the WEC has raced at Imola.

Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, which has signed a five-year contract extension with the WEC, will form the third round of the championship before the series returns to France for its biggest race of the year: the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans (15 -June 16).

Following an agreement with São Paulo's City Hall, the WEC will return to Brazil for the first time since 2014 for the 6 Hours of São Paulo at the Interlagos Circuit in mid-July. The championship then travels to Austin, Texas, for round six and a return to the Circuit of the Americas for the Lone Star Le Mans, last held in 2020.

Fuji International Speedway will stage the penultimate round of the calendar with its popular race in Japan in mid-September. Bahrain will once again host the season finale at the Bahrain International Circuit at the start of November.
