The 2022 FIA WEC season is now three races old but with added points for the 24 Hours of Le Mans the points tables have been greatly altered since the Spa round in May.
With double points on offer at Le Mans the structure of a championship campaign is often founded on results accrued at La Sarthe.
After a another tumultuous Le Mans last weekend the battles for the silverware are already hotting up as teams, manufacturers and drivers start to dream of being crowned champions in Bahrain in five months’ time.
In the Hypercar World Endurance Manufacturers Championship, Toyota has usurped Alpine at the head of the table after accumulating a maximum 50-points at La Sarthe.
That now means it has a 22-point advantage over Les Bleues with Glickenhaus in third 34 points shy of Toyota.
After one retirement apiece for the Toyotas in the first two races and Alpine getting fourth placed points at Le Mans, it means that in the Hypercar World Endurance Drivers Championship table it is still Andre Negrao, Matthieu Vaxiviere and Nicolas Lapierre that hold an advantage.
But that is now just three points from Le Mans victors Brendon Hartley, Sebastien Buemi and Ryo Hirakawa.
Glickenhaus’ Olivier Pla and Romain Dumas now third after fourth placed points at Le Mans.
The No.7 Toyota Gazoo Racing trio of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Jose-Maria Lopez place fourth but still 20-points down on the leading Alpine trio.
In the GT FIA World Endurance Drivers Championship, Porsche enjoys an 18-points gap over rivals Ferrari as the race for the title shapes up to be another classic encounter between the age-old rivals.
In the GT Manufacturers FIA World Endurance Championship race it is Porsche that lead Ferrari by 26 points after No.91’s win last weekend.
The title scrap for the GT FIA World Endurance Drivers’ Championship sees No.91 Porsche pairing, Richard Lietz and Gimmi Bruni leap into the lead with a tiny three point advantage over teammates Kevin Estre and Michael Christensen.
In LMP2 the Le Mans winning trio of Antonio Felix da Costa, Roberto Gonzalez and Will Stevens surge to the front after their LA Sarthe success. They hold an 11-point lead over United Autosport USA’s Oliver Jarvis and Joshua Pierson.
The LMP2 Pro/Am division sees the No.83 AF Corse crew of Alessio Rovera, Nicklas Nielsen and Francois Perrodo still ahead but with a now much reduced lead.
They hold an eight point advantage from the Algrave Pro Racing squad of Rene Binder, Steven Thomas and James Allen who took a memorable Le Mans win.
The LMGTE Am category’s FIA Endurance Trophy for GTE Am drivers title chase Ben Keating and Marco Sorensen for TF Sport have marched to the top after their Le Mans heroics and enjoy an eight point lead over the David Pittard, Nicki Thiim and Paul Dalla Lana, who took third last weekend.
