WRT Holds off Toyota at Drying Spa; Ferrari 1-2 in LMGTE Pro

Robin Frijns stars in mid-phase of weather affected , as WRT leads at home track.

But as fifth hour approaches Kamui Kobayashi's Toyota Hypercar is on tail of Frijns to challenge for the lead. 

AF Corse Ferrari push through to 1-2 in LMGTE Pro in drying conditions after third red flag period amid torrential rain showers.

Hypercar   

  • No.7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid Hypercar of Kamui Kobayashi leads category from Glickenhaus 007LMH after weather hit fourth hour at Spa 
  • Kobayashi runs second overall to WRT LMP2 entry but reclaims lead on resumption of green flag racing after third red flag 
  • Third red flag of race is flown after Alex Brundle accident triggers barrier repairs at Turn 9 
  • Alpine ELF Team runs third with Nicolas Lapierre at the wheel 

    LMGTE Pro   
  • Porsche GT Team continues to lead with No.92 car driven by Kevin Estre and Michael Christensen but AF Corse Ferrari then head to the front as No.52 car driven by Miguel Molina makes one less pit stop to four-hour mark 
  • Molina leads from sister Ferrari of Alessandro Pier Guidi as Porsche pits out of sequence and returns in third place with Michael Christensen in cockpit 
  • Corvette Racing back on track after losing time in first red flag period but is back in play to join battle at front with Tommy Milner now at wheel 
  • Gimmi Bruni continues to try and claw back time after first lap incident with teammate Kevin Estre but remains a lap adrift of leader 

LMP2    

  • WRT stars in third and fourth hours as Robin Frijns extends overall lead to No.7 Toyota of Mike Conway 
  • Frijns capitalises on tough conditions to execute memorable stint and extends gap to 25-seconds on Toyota 
  • That gets re-set after the red flag for Alex Brundle’s accident, but Dutch ace re-starts in lead overall and in LMP2 
  • Another star of the fully wet period is Alex Lynn in No.23 United Autosports USA who hustles through to second in class after excellent stints 
  • Third in LMP2 sits the No.22 United car driven by Filip Albuquerque 
  • Antonio Felix da Costa returns to No.38 cockpit but suffers fraught moment at Eau Rouge while lapping traffic. Portuguese driver survives but drops to rear of LMP2 field 
  • Prema Orlen Team runs fourth as Robert Kubica remains in cockpit as race enters fifth hour
